Taiwanese pop superstar Jay Chou’s mother has become even richer from her son’s image.
On Thursday, shares in Yeh Hui-Mei’s company Star Plus Legend Holdings surged as much as 48% on their trading debut after selling at HK$4.25 (54 cents) each in an initial public offering in Hong Kong. That may lift her wealth significantly above the $54 million that she was set to gain based on the offer price, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Shares traded as high as HK$6.30 shortly after the open, before trimming gains to 24% as of 10 a.m. local time. The jump compares to a 0.7% average increase for IPO debuts in Hong Kong this year.
