One of Britain’s richest men is using taxpayer money to furlough nearly 800 staff at his luxury hotel chain. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who’s worth £12.2billion and once tried to buy Chelsea Football Club, is using the scheme to pay workers up to £2,500-a-month.
The Home Grown Hotels and Lime Wood Group venues are favourites of celebrities, and hosted the weddings of Noel Gallagher and Jamie Cullum.
Tory MP Peter Bone said: “People will find it difficult to understand why the ultra-rich are sponging off the taxpayer. “Many of my constituents would think they should be paying the wages and not the taxpayer.”
