Walmart’s highest-ranking woman plans to leave the company, and it is positioning a younger crop of leaders to be potential successors to CEO Doug McMillon.
Judith McKenna, who leads Walmart’s international business, will leave her role in early September, the country’s largest retailer by revenue said Wednesday. McKenna, 57 years old, will stay with Walmart through the end of the retailer’s fiscal year in January. The announcement came ahead of the company’s quarterly earnings report Thursday.
Kathryn McLay, the current head of Walmart’s warehouse chain Sam’s Club, will become CEO of Walmart International. McLay, 49, joined Walmart in 2015 after years working for grocery chain Woolworths and airline Qantas in Australia.
